    Hi Reiki Family!

I am curious to know what symbols you would use if somebody is sick? ( Assuming here that we know why somebody is sick and that their medical condition is being treated )
I am including all Reiki Modalities here....

    - Would you use symbols rather than hand positions? Are there symbols to treat physical illnesses in the first place?

-Would you use visualizations along with it?

    - Are there combinations of symbols you would use depending upon the type of illness?

-Could you please share your experience?

    Thank you!

    Hi Hamsa

The way I understand the use of Reiki symbols is to use number 1 for physical areas where you sense there is an imbalance (a byosen), number 2 for psychological (mental/emotional) conditions and number 3 for absent healing.

There is no specific combinations of symbols for specific conditions used in traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho (although Mrs Takata did sometimes say to add a CKR after one of the other symbols to "give it 100 horse power" - but this is not essential).

There are specific hand positions for specific conditions that were taught by Chujiro Hayashi (and some also say Mikao Usui) but these are more likely for people who were not able to sense byosen.

However, some styles of Reiki e.g. Tera Mai and Karuna do have specific symbols for specific conditions but these are not the Usui Reiki symbols.

    What Colin said. Wink

If I felt a sense that the illness may also be rooted to a degree in a condition of emotional distress, I might then double the SHK. I would respectfully ask for any guides, entities or energies present to add a bit of extra help and oomph to re-balancing the emotions underlying the physical condition.

Essentially, I'd use the symbols as Colin suggests, and close with a warm, heartfelt thank you to the energies and any entities present who helped facilitate the healing session. I love you

    THANK YOU Colin & Sunflower!!!!

So, Any imbalance = physical illness! Period!
Every illness is treated the same way except for some differences in the hand positions. It is the same for a headache or a sprain or easing cancer treatment discomforts!!

    One size fits all.
or 'it knows what to do on the body'!! Aim, Zap, let go - Usui style!

I am curious how it is different in the other reiki modalities? isn't Reiki all the same? One style relieves pain more than the other? One symbol works better than the other?

Then again, Reiki is not for curing physical illness, only for providing comfort and management? I hear miracle stories on the internet! what kind of combination causes miracles??? :-D :-D

Not quite! What I said was to use symbol number 1 "for physical areas where you sense there is an imbalance" i.e. imbalances in physical areas on the body, which may or may not have physical origins! I believe that many physical symptoms result from an energetic imbalance which itself can result from a disharmony with one's environment, general lifestyle and way of thinking. Often there are early warning signs that go unheeded (or unnoticed) and further, more physical symptoms develop. There are of course many other physical conditions that are caused by other factors so I am not saying that we always bring these symptoms on ourselves! Smile

This goes back a little to what I have posted elsewhere on RLL. Yes, Reiki is Reiki and the system most of us mean when we talk about Reiki is Usui Reiki Ryoho. But there are many many ways of practicing this system, including Usui Shiki Ryoho, Usui/Tibetan Reiki, Gendai Reiki, Komyo Reiki, Jikiden Reiki, Tera Mai Reiki, Reiki Jin Kei Do etc.

If one style relieved pain more than another, I'm sure we would be more aware of that. Similarly, with symbols, some people have chosen to incorporate a whole new library of symbols which are more specialised than the original Usui Reiki Ryoho symbols. However, I believe that these newer symbols are simply more specialised rather than more powerful. In other words they are actually more limited in use than the original symbols because they are used in a more specific way. Also, these extra symbols mean that there is a move away from the simplicity of the original system, with more symbols (and their specific usage) to learn, together with having to learn when to use each of them (and their names/mantras).

When Usui, Hayashi and Takata sensei performed a Reiki session they didn't need to know the details of exactly what was wrong with someone, they just found the areas where there was a byosen (or an increase in vibration under the hand, as Takata sometimes called it) and used symbol number 1. This way they were treating the cause (the imbalance) rather than the effect (the symptoms). As Takata was also very fond of saying "treat the cause and there shall be no effect!". Extra symbols for specific purposes means that the practitioner has to delve deeper into what is wrong with the person - to diagnose to a degree - which again departs from the original system which simply treats areas of imbalance regardless of any particular condition (provided the practitioner is able to sense these areas).

Reiki is for healing, a move towards balance, harmony and wholeness, which may sometimes also result in a cure - but its main purpose is healing both the mind and body.

One can read lots of "miracle stories" on the internet but it doesn't necessarily mean they are all true! Yes, I think that apparent miracles do sometimes happen but there is no magical formula, as far as the practice of any of the styles of Reiki is concerned, that will cause miracles to happen with certainty.

hey Colin, a lovely post, simple yet powerful, like reiki itself Smile

although many of us have a 'habit' of associating CKR with physical aspects and 'boosting' physical aspects of reiki, it wouldnt be out of scenario to see that CKR is used over other symbols to increase their 'non-physical' aspects too, like Takata Sensei suggested to use CKR over SHK....

reiki possibly does not teaches us to 'attempt' becoming master of the situation in a reiki session... and when we do, we try to devise new symbols, new styles, (and new reiki) of course... simplicity is a jewel that does not simply shine for everyone though Smile

coming to know variations in reiki techniques through experience is perhaps much better than 'trying' different reiki techniques in order to coming to know about them scratch

    Hello,

There doesn't seem to be a magic formula to effect healing. I have found that my asking and puzzling about this leaves me feeling defeated for what works for one does not work for the other. What I have found that seems to work well is. #1. Practise practise practise. This allows you to resonate strongly with the reiki effect and allows the quality and quantity of reiki energy to be sufficient to bring about healing. #2. Be in a state of pure compassion and love as you offer the energy. Unattached to the outcome. Becoming the pure beauty that reiki is. Joyful, loving and silent. #3.Trust your intuition as well as the byosen. If you bring to your client 1,2 and 3 then healing should occur in time unless there is resistance to healing.
#4. This is where we must leave healing in the hands of the individual seeking it.

flower hi can i join in?
(the following are my personal beliefs)
i often think myself about how reiki heals?
i use the symbols in combinations that i feel are right. i'm more inclined to use shk the most.
i guess a lot depends on how or why dis-ease or illness manifests in the body
the most important thing for me is that i do not intend to heal as such because it is not any one person's place to heal another it is our clients who heal themselves reiki is a means or energy transfer to be used in what ever manner the client's higher self sees fit.
as reiki practitioners we are the channel for reiki energy, maybe be we are able to tap into our clients higher self? i'm not certain about that. the symbols are there to amplify reiki energy in what ever way the client needs. is a part of our intuition or the clients? again i'm not certain. but one size does not fit all and every reiki experience will be different flower queen

of course all of this advice is different when it's some one you love. now i'm not so certain about anything. i know reiki works it does but trusting it does comes down to a whole lot more

I only use specific symbols during a healing session, if they appear to my inner vision,or have an intuitive calling to do so.

I simply place my hands on the recipient and ask that the Reiki flows for the greatest good of that recipient. If a recipient has asked for reiki for a specific condition to be eased, eg, someone is suffering with great pain in their knees....then I would ask that the Reiki flows so as to take away the pain in the knees. One particular session I had was about just that. During the treatment I saw spirals of silvery blue light 'sucking' the pain out of his knees. After the session, he remarked on how fantastic his knees felt. Very Happy
