So, Any imbalance = physical illness! Period!
Every illness is treated the same way except for some differences in the hand positions. It is the same for a headache or a sprain or easing cancer treatment discomforts!!
One size fits all.
or 'it knows what to do on the body'!! Aim, Zap, let go - Usui style!
Not quite! What I said was to use symbol number 1 "for physical areas where you sense there is an imbalance" i.e. imbalances in physical areas on the body, which may or may not have physical origins! I believe that many physical symptoms result from an energetic imbalance which itself can result from a disharmony with one's environment, general lifestyle and way of thinking. Often there are early warning signs that go unheeded (or unnoticed) and further, more physical symptoms develop. There are of course many other physical conditions that are caused by other factors so I am not saying that we always bring these symptoms on ourselves!

I am curious how it is different in the other reiki modalities? isn't Reiki all the same? One style relieves pain more than the other? One symbol works better than the other?
This goes back a little to what I have posted elsewhere on RLL. Yes, Reiki is Reiki and the system most of us mean when we talk about Reiki is Usui Reiki Ryoho. But there are many many ways of practicing this system, including Usui Shiki Ryoho, Usui/Tibetan Reiki, Gendai Reiki, Komyo Reiki, Jikiden Reiki, Tera Mai Reiki, Reiki Jin Kei Do etc.
If one style relieved pain more than another, I'm sure we would be more aware of that. Similarly, with symbols, some people have chosen to incorporate a whole new library of symbols which are more specialised than the original Usui Reiki Ryoho symbols. However, I believe that these newer symbols are simply more specialised rather than more powerful. In other words they are actually more limited in use than the original symbols because they are used in a more specific way. Also, these extra symbols mean that there is a move away from the simplicity of the original system, with more symbols (and their specific usage) to learn, together with having to learn when to use each of them (and their names/mantras).
When Usui, Hayashi and Takata sensei performed a Reiki session they didn't need to know the details of exactly what was wrong with someone, they just found the areas where there was a byosen (or an increase in vibration under the hand, as Takata sometimes called it) and used symbol number 1. This way they were treating the cause (the imbalance) rather than the effect (the symptoms). As Takata was also very fond of saying "treat the cause and there shall be no effect!". Extra symbols for specific purposes means that the practitioner has to delve deeper into what is wrong with the person - to diagnose to a degree - which again departs from the original system which simply treats areas of imbalance regardless of any particular condition (provided the practitioner is able to sense these areas).

Then again, Reiki is not for curing physical illness, only for providing comfort and management? I hear miracle stories on the internet! what kind of combination causes miracles??? :-D :-D
Hamsa
Reiki is for healing, a move towards balance, harmony and wholeness, which may sometimes also result in a cure - but its main purpose is healing both the mind and body.
One can read lots of "miracle stories" on the internet but it doesn't necessarily mean they are all true! Yes, I think that apparent miracles do sometimes happen but there is no magical formula, as far as the practice of any of the styles of Reiki is concerned, that will cause miracles to happen with certainty.
