Hey Guys and Gals,
Looking forward to spending a big chunk of my time here,
I have to step out,
But will be back!

Look at those emoticons, how can I not get excited over those?
The worst way to communicate is through the internet, can't see people's face, can't read their eyes... but emoticons help!
...it's also a personality glitch!

Oh No,
(You shouldn't have said that.....Personality glitch no 2 - too curious...)
Hmmmm...
Why ever not? What's not to like?

Oh well, this will test just how excited you can get without your head imploding...

I fancy myself a writer. I really love how expressive and eloquent the written word can be. I enjoy both reading and writing as descriptively as I can. Although sometimes I just write my thoughts on message boards such as these, which often causes the problems you expressed above.
Andy, That's cool!
I guess you choose words for expression and I choose pictures( for garnish )! We both are using different expressions - is all!
I absolutely LOVE to read something beautifully written. I can melt into those words and enjoy them but can't write some myself.
I feel that using “text speak” (i.e. “u r kool” or “I h8t u”) or emoticons (although you will see me type out a chuckle or smile or even use the old <g> for grin) is a lazy and rather ineffective way to portray emotion.
Actually , althought the text speak is annoying, I see creativity and intelligence there. It's not all that easy to write text speak, a skill you have to learn. I wouldn't use it in a forum though and I can't text speak. Period.
I actually liked it when you wrote 'chuckle'.... I thought that was pretty effective.
Actually emoticons save me in a way. I say stuff. I express opinions. But I am also nervous that they could be interpreted negatively... I make jokes. I don't want to hurt people's feelings.
So emoticons are my safety net. Hopefully peppering my post with emoticons with make it 'light hearted' which is what I want!
Ultimately I would wish everyone would be able to eloquently write out what they want to express. But I know that isn’t always possible at the various different aptitudes people have for such. So I generally tolerate, with a smile (real one), the emoticons.
