    HEY Dudes & Dudettes!

I have been getting into arguments recently about whether our lives are PREDESTINED!

Along with this topic goes concepts like Past lives, Karma and Life after death, Prediction of future.
How is this relevant to Reiki?

Reiki practitioners are being called 'Light Workers' and there is an understanding that we are being called to serve and this is all predestined. Any thoughts on that?
How many of you think this theory is a bunch of 'crud'?

scratch I've never thought about that. Most folks
do say Reiki came to them so it could be a calling.
It's one more lesson/tool that has come into our lives.
Like a fork in the road you can choose it or reject it.

I suppose I should elaborate a bit on my comments.

If our lives are predestined, what destined them, and why?

To say that a life is pre-determined is to say that the outcome is known--and if the outcome is known, then what purpose does it fulfill?

I agree with buck. We got free will to do as we wish in life.

Destiny doesn't neccessarily mean otherwise. It doesn't take away choice , imo. Astrology, etc, i feel will only tell us a set of variables, perhaps a likely outcome at best.

Astrology gave birth to astronomy... the difference is that one group of people who looked up at the sky continued to apply (and test and continually change and improve) more complex mathematics than the other.

I think it was much easier to live a pre-destined life two or three hundred years ago when one's potential was severely limited by one's environment. Today's western culture largely allows anyone with potential (who can actually access it) to live their life to their fullest potential and do amazing things. Stephen Hawking is a perfect example as he should have been dead years ago, but in spite of his terminal illness, he brought forth new mathematical discoveries and theories. How many with his potential were born two hundred (or more) years ago that were stuck in the limits of a pre-destined life? It's frightening to think of those potential numbers.

I think that a pre-destined life can give one comfort and even add a sense of artificial meaning to one's life. If someone is unhappy with their life and unable to access their innate potential that allows them to manifest the changes to make them happy, then convincing themselves that "it's my destiny to learn this karma" (or something similar) is a highly effective way to not change, thereby staying in that place.

No, It's not entirely crud! Razz bom

I am sure there are people who are going around spinning tales. ....May be you were exposed to some that's why you feel this way! Very Happy

Do you know any astrology yourself enough to say whether it is True or False?
    What about palmistry?

I don't consult them myself but I know enough from personal experience that they CAN be true!
In my experience more than 60% of the time they are just money making scams or just run of the mill stuff. But I have known people in India who have been able to predict future to a certain degree enough to say, OMG, he said so!

A couple of instances in my own personal experience....
    1) When I was in college I met this younger boy where I was volunteering. Those days 'Palmistry' was an 'in' thing. (My Father had knowledge in both but we kids usually never want to hear any of it ..) But his book collection was always there and I have leafed thru them.
We were reading each other's palm and I saw his palm has a really short life line and was shocked. I told him, he better quit smoking or he was going to die young!
Six or so months later I found out he died by drowning in the sea! affraid
I still remember it. Reiki's honor, I am not making this up.

What the heck do I make of that? Was it destiny? Was it coincidence?

My father told me I will live my adult life in a foreign country. I thought my dad had gone cuckoo b'cos we were poor growing up and did not have anybody even in other parts of India and I had absolutely no intention of going anywhere.
Here I am! Living in chicago............
What was that all about??? Coincidence?? from where?

    Just some anecdotal input, Smile.

I was into Tarot for a time, a few years ago. Two readings stood out, one in which i interpreted the person i was reading was going to have a job promotion, and he had been actually training for this very thing.

The other, was a reading i done for a friend. The 'Death' card came up, inverted. I initially felt that it did mean death (usually it just means a change or something), but as i was taught to try to make a reading positive if possible, i instead said major changes were needed, and/or on the horizon. Sadly, 3 months later he killed himself.

I'm not sure how Tarot work, or what way they do work, but those two times stood out for me, Smile .

    Take care

I do not know what predestines our lives.
I think we most definitely have free will to choose what we want and I also believe there is some amount of predestination involved.

How is Ole able to come up with KR?? It was all not free will?! He did not go to a university to learn it. How did you get your beautiful gifts, they choose you , you did not choose them! They were given to you. Whether you use them or not will be upto your free will. Why were you both given gifts and not other people, That's destiny! Very Happy

I like to hang on theories like Karma and consequences....etc,. Pre-determined does not mean the outcome is known, options are known, the free-will added to that formula will decide the outcome.
Who knows for sure, I think we learn life lessons.. ?? cyclops

How do you know that was not his destiny?? clown

I think that a pre-destined life can give one comfort and even add a sense of artificial meaning to one's life. I totally agree,
If life is 100% pre-destined then nobody would be doing anything... so freewill plays a huge part in driving ourselves to our destination.
If we go back and think about our synchronicities in our life , you'll find out you did not manifest all of them... even ask for them, but they came to you!

That's how I feel my life is.. a lot of people will be able to relate to that! drunken

Oh god, that's terrible! They usually get a bad rap but I got a reading that was uncanny. Shocked They don't still tell you where to go , what to do, we'll just have to figure it out. My point is past can be read, so future too, to some extent!

    Hi Sweetie!

We can do in 10 life times or 3 life times right?

Say supposed I am alive , I die tomorrow and I need to still learn my lessons...
I am going to be born again, under 'certain' conditions, with 'certain' qualifications or will be given 'certain' experiences, so I can learn my lesson.

That 'certain' aspect MAY be predestined with respect to the unfinished lessons. we can use our freewill to learn and move on or be born several times to get it right.

Cayce was an autodidact who worked in a library... he read a lot.

I don't think that is sufficient to predict presidential assasinations, don't think so!
    Shocked

He is a medical intuitive and went into a hypnotic state to diagnose people's medical conditions and the patients need not be present for him to do that.
He gave treatment info that were unconventional but nevertheless cured people.

He would sleep on his textbooks and then after the nap, he would know the contents of the entire textbook!

He was repeatedly tested by doctors and other professionals to find out if he was tricking them somehow.
