Alternate names for handpositions? Empty Alternate names for handpositions?

Post by Moore Thu Sep 16, 2010 10:35 pm

I were just reading through james website and found an interesting article on
the supposedly original five handpositions used by usui. I learned these from
day one. However i learned them without names, and frankly these japanese
    names are tricky to remember.

Does anyone here know how one would translate english
1st through 5th handpositions into japanese phrases?

It'd be much easier to remember. At least for me.

    Thanks in advance,

    Moore

do you perhaps mean translate the Japanese into English?

1, zentōbu - "front of head section" or "forehead position"
2, sokutōbu - "side of head section" or "temple [temporal lobe] position"
3, kōtōbu - "back of head section" or "occiput position"
4, enzuibu - "Medulla Oblongata section" or "brainstem position"
5, tōchōbu - "top of head section" or "scullcap position"

    Hmmm only 5 hand positions?
If that's no less than 3
    minutes per hand position
    then a Reiki session would
    last for 15 minutes sunny

Each handposition can be from a minute and longer.
Then there's always intuitive ways of placing hands Wink

    James,
what i had in mind were sort of renaming them to "first handposition", "Second handposition" in japanese. I can at least count to ten in japanese so it'd be a huge help in remembering actually. I just can't seem to remember the names you listed on your site. God know i've tried.

Interesting to note that all the five hand positions relate to head region...

"you treat the head, you treat the body" sort of thing Question study

    take care

From what I recall, this list of Usui's Original Hand Positions originally came via Chris Marsh and it was said that Usui would always treat the head as it was the most important area. He would spend 30 minutes treating the head and then allow the Reiki to move his hands (Reiji) to any other areas that were indicated. If there were no other specific areas he would treat the chest and abdomen (hara) area.

I also find I can quite easily spend 20-30 minutes on the head positions when I do a full Reiki session on someone.

As for Japanese numbering for the hand positions, why not follow Takata's lead? On her tapes you can hear here demonstrating her "foundation" hand positions on the front of the body: "1 and 2 and 3 and 4!". So that should be easier for you to translate into Japanese if you can already count to ten.
