(bear with me this could get a bit long)
Encouraged by my Reiki Master and the work of Diane Stein, I believed firmly that once mastership had been conferred, it was the duty of the new master to teach and make Reiki available to everyone.
Last year I attuned my best friend Ruth to Reiki Level 3. We had both received Levels 1 and 2 from the same Master, but had lost touch with him since I received my Level 3 attunement. (long story)
I will admit to being irritated with Ruth because, not only did she show no sign of attuning anyone else to Reiki, she told me she didn't use it on herself any more. I wasn't pleased.
However, we had a conversation last week which made me think.
Over the last year, since I attuned her, her life has indeed changed beyond recognition. She is about to start a Fine Art degree at the age of 51! As part of the assessment process for this, they discovered she is in fact severely dyslexic, which explains her struggle over the years. In fact, I admired her even more because she worked for many of those years as an admin assistant - not the sort of profession you'd expect someone who has problems with words and systems to undertake. As a result of this diagnosis, she is now receiving specialist help and support as well as a disabled students allowance. Last week she received news that she has been granted a scholarship, which means her fees are paid for. She is also seeking professional counselling for issues arising from a very abusive and confused childhood (the sort nobody would believe if it were made into a novel or a film).
Who am I to say Reiki mastership has been wasted on her?
Surely Reiki moves in wonderful and mysterious ways to heal situations and people.
