Masters and Teaching Empty Masters and Teaching

(bear with me this could get a bit long)

Encouraged by my Reiki Master and the work of Diane Stein, I believed firmly that once mastership had been conferred, it was the duty of the new master to teach and make Reiki available to everyone.

Last year I attuned my best friend Ruth to Reiki Level 3. We had both received Levels 1 and 2 from the same Master, but had lost touch with him since I received my Level 3 attunement. (long story)

I will admit to being irritated with Ruth because, not only did she show no sign of attuning anyone else to Reiki, she told me she didn't use it on herself any more. I wasn't pleased.

However, we had a conversation last week which made me think.

Over the last year, since I attuned her, her life has indeed changed beyond recognition. She is about to start a Fine Art degree at the age of 51! As part of the assessment process for this, they discovered she is in fact severely dyslexic, which explains her struggle over the years. In fact, I admired her even more because she worked for many of those years as an admin assistant - not the sort of profession you'd expect someone who has problems with words and systems to undertake. As a result of this diagnosis, she is now receiving specialist help and support as well as a disabled students allowance. Last week she received news that she has been granted a scholarship, which means her fees are paid for. She is also seeking professional counselling for issues arising from a very abusive and confused childhood (the sort nobody would believe if it were made into a novel or a film).

Who am I to say Reiki mastership has been wasted on her?

Surely Reiki moves in wonderful and mysterious ways to heal situations and people.

Thanks for sharing that wonderful observation.
It's amazing what can happen when we bring our
    attention to focus on ourselves.

    hi Chris

this is always a debate that would we be supposed to confer mastership to somebody who has no flavour for it?

but i suppose your point was something else... you probably have given hint that even when such a buddy apparently does nothing with the newly-bestowed mastership ability, the ability itself is the key to open sevaral ways, which work even when he have ignored them consciously...

    this is so interesting Smile!

for me, mastership is a very very sacred step... not because it gives a tag, but since it gives a place within lineage... becoming a part of chain of people which run upwards to Usui Sensei, is not a small thing... it inspires me so much!

for people, who have received mastership and are not using the ability actively... there might be multiple outcomes... sometimes, outcomes like you have said... and sometimes the opposite...

if somebody does not practice mastership, or does not even practice reiki, does that buddy becomes fit for inviting some ill consequences ?

i know a lady in my circle, who is spiritually very alive, and sometimes has exhibited psychic abilities of good substance... she was given mastership... and that day onwards she is apparently in constant troubles...

supersitions aside, does this have to do anything with 'not-using' the mastership once conferred ??

in esoteric circles, there is a tendency that when you dont show respect, reverence, and importance to some spiriutal gift, you are parted with it after sometime, and usually this is followed by a chain of events which we see as 'wrath'...

this is another side of your thread Chris Smile

Salman, this is partly why I posted what I did, because I too had heard of the sort of vengeance of the otherworld. However, and knowing what I do about Reiki, I don't think Reiki is like that. I think the lady you mentioned is having a sort of "Reiki healing situations" time, like I experienced after my Level 2. Maybe she needs to trust it more...

    hi Chris Smile

I was taking the words 'wrath' in a way that if we don't value a spiritual gift, we make ouselves deserving to be deprived of its blessings... I personally also don't beleive in vengeance like you have expressed...
