Here is another question: Will a French dog sit if you tell it to "Sit!" instead of "Assis!"? Laughing

I suppose that all depends on:
a, whether or not the dog is deaf
b, whether or not the dog obeys commands
    and
c, whether or not the dog's English is better than my 'phrase-book' French
I always thought assis! was past tense: 'Sat!'

    Not according to http://www.talkingtails.com/command.html

    Sit: Assis
    Down: Couché
    Stay: Attend
    Come: Viens or Ici
    Heel: Au pied

My French isn't good enough to be sure either way, though! Smile

True. Though I'm sure I know someone who could conveniently 'rediscover' a couple of long-lost original wax-cylinder recordings - if your interested Twisted Evil

Also, I would imagine that Onisaburo Deguchi pronounced it as nao hi, since that is how it appears in translations of his work.

Indeed. However, Deguchi's Omoto Kyo group did produce a magazine entitled: Chokurei-gun ("Direct-Spirit Army") ...

but alternate readings could also render it as 'hon sha shi sho nen', 'hon sha shi sei nen', 'hon ja shi sho nen' or 'hon ja shi sei nen'

and of course the kanji for 'hon' (本) can also be read: moto - as in Omoto (大本)

and the 'O'(大) in Omoto can also be read: 'dai' - as in Dai Ko Myo (大 光 明) - which some would have us believe was originally pronounced Dai Mitsu Mei...

I'm off to Reiki my head - either that or have a good strong drink Smile

    Me too!

But before I do - here is an example to show that it is not just Japanese that has this problem:

    If I said:
    "I read about lead guitars"

Do I actually still read about them now or did I used to read about them - and were they guitars made of lead or lead guitars which played melodies rather than chords?

Sorry for the off-topic posts but I'm in a strange mood at the moment! rendeer
    lol!
