    Question #8

Why is Hyakuten Inamoto teaches so different from what Tadao Yamaguchi and you teach? He claims to be a student of Chiyoko Yamaguchi as well.

    Frank Arjava Petter:

I have been hesitating to answer this question in public for 10 years because I didn't want to get into dirty Reiki politics. However because of my knowledge I also have a responsibility to share what I know and it's time to speak up.

    Inamoto Hyakuten Sensei:

I teach a different system named Komyo Reiki, I never ever claimed that I teach Jikiden Reiki. Reiki invites us Reiki Ryoho Practitioners for a path to Oneness by transcending all the differences and a world of separateness. If one is a true Reiki practitioner, naturally he can rise above the differences and easily reach a world of Oneness. There is no such word "judgmental" in the Reiki Dictionary.

“Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.”

“A fool is indeed a fool, who is not aware of his foolishness. A fool, however, is no longer a fool when he becomes aware of his foolishness.”

Because of my deeper knowledge and backstage stories about Mrs. Yamaguchi and Tadao, I also feel responsible for sharing the truth, and now it is time to shoot ...

    Frank Arjava Petter:

Mr. Inamoto learned only Shoden from Chiyoko Sensei. Apparently out of gratitude for what he received from her, he offered her to answer her English language email enquiries. Since neither Chiyoko Sensei nor Tadao Sensei spoke English they accepted his offer gratefully. But instead of helping the prospective students to meet with Chiyoko Sensei, he told them that Chiyoko Sensei did not speak English, that she mixed her own religious beliefs with Reiki and that he could teach better than her.

    Inamoto Hyakuten Sensei:

Mrs. Yamaguchi had no email account and she received no English email enquiries from anybody. When she had her private Reiki class (training) she was very little known in Reiki community in the world. There was no reason or need for me to offer my service to her. There were no prospective students. How could I sabotage her prospective students whereas she had no such students. She was happy with 5 students.

Please be reminded that Mrs. Yamaguchi had no Shoden or Okuden or anything like that. She had no systematic course (curriculum) in her teachings.

Mrs. Yamaguchi asked me to help Tadao with his newborn Jikiden. It was my great pleasure to do so, and Tadao was happy about my help. One day I was invited to join Jikiden Reiki course so that I could be of their English translator. Mrs.Yamaguchi and Tadao said “no fee for Hyakuten-san.” I responded “why?” They said it was as a token of their appreciation and gratitude for my help. I was the 14th on the offical Jikiden Reiki student list.

The very 1st student was Doi Sensei of Gendai Reiki Ho, who also helped Tadao in many ways such as giving him suggestions, advice and making Jikiden manuals.

Mrs. YAMAGUCHI Chiyoko and INAMOTO Hyakuten Sensei

Here is how we (5 students, but 3 students dropped out a few months later) did the training with Mrs. Yamaguchi:

We got together every Monday afternoon at her apartment room and a few month later in a Japanese room on the 2nd floor of Tadao's stationery store handed down from his father. Tadao was a stationer. He was not a Reiki practitioner at all. He was very much involved in other healing modality called “Jorei.” He was a secretary-general of “J Haealing”, short for Jorei Healing.
We chanted “Reiki Kyogi (Principles) three times together
Each student was given Reiju by Mrs. Yamaguchi. Personally I received Reiju 60 times more or less from her whom we used to call “Okaa-san” or “mother.”
Reiki healing practice among students together with Mrs. Ymaguchi.( receiving and giving Reiki healing on each other.) During the practice time she taught us whatever teachings of Hayashi Sensei she could recall.
A tea break. (Sometimes Tadao joined us and enjoyed chatting over a cup of tea.)
Sharing experiences of each student and a question and answer time.

    Frank Arjava Petter:

Since I was still living in Japan at that time, many of those people also wrote to me, asking me what they should see in Japan. I told them what I thought they might like to see and asked them why they travelled to Japan. When they told me that they were training with Mr. Inamoto I asked them in return why they did not study with Chiyoko Sensei? Quite a number of people then forwarded me Mr. Inamoto’s email.

    Inamoto Hyakuten Sensei:

At that time, to the best of my knowledge, my focus was on teaching Reiki classes to Japanese people. Sometimes I had students from other countries, but they were all resident foreigners living in Kansai (Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto) area.

    Frank Arjava Petter:

What I have just told you is known by several other people and we do have a video recording of Chiyoko Sensei talking about the issue. Please don’t misunderstand that I want to mis- credit Mr. Inamoto. What he teaches is probably perfectly good, but it has no relation with Chiyoko Sensei’s teaching and shall not be confused with it.

    Inamoto Hyakuten Sensei:
Only by my own thought, speech and deed I can be discredited.

“Honesty is the best policy.” This is Dharma (truth).

Komyo Reiki Kai Motto says “Go placidly in the midst of praise or blame.”

The Buddha says “Even as a solid rock is unshaken by the wind, so are the wise unshaken by praise or blame.”

    Honestly Buck,

I'm hesitant to give an opinion. There's much value in lots of styles. It's what we make of it ourselves. Talking to Komyo folks, I feel their style has much quality. So it's irrespective whether Hyakuten was only level 1. Same as Jikiden, lots of sound people have great experiences. I've met Colin, spent a couple days in his presence, the peace around him in really tangible.

For me, the comments in the above article give up lots of questions, that do support some of my assertions and more. It's more to do with history, and allowing people to make their own perception.

    warmest wishes

Here is a comment from Robert Fueston on Facebook about this article (which is also on Facebook)

I have another part of the story. When I was beginning my Master training with Fran Brown, one of Takata's Master students, she told me that she went to Japan and met Mrs. Yamaguchi, Hyakuten, and Tadao. Fran and Mrs. Yamaguchi met to compare initiation methods and Hyakuten was their translator. It was clear to Fran that Hyakuten was a Master under Mrs. Yamaguchi. A level one would not be allowed to see and translate this Master meeting. She showed me a picture of the four of them together at this meeting. I have posted it years ago on my web site. http://www.robertfueston.com/reiki/articles/reiki_people.html#FB You can also see some of this information on Fran Brown's web site. It is still up although she died a few years ago. http://www.reikifranbrown.com/bio.htm I heard the exact same story from Hyakuten Sensei before hearing this story from Fran Brown. Both stories were identical. I am very lucky to have heard this story from Fran Brown as she had no vested interested either way.

It is interesting just how deeply the Yamaguchi's were involved with Jorei [Johrei] healing.

Tadao had joined two or three different organisations based on the teachings of Mokichi Okada - founder of the Johrei healing method.
[There are a number of different organisations, presenting different variations on Okada's teachings – just as we find different variations of Reiki Ryoho]

Hyakuten tells us Tadao actually held the position of secretary-general of one of these organisations.

And Tadao's mother, Chiyoko, was also a member of one of the Johrei healing organisations
Seems she originally joined as she was interested in the effects of integrating Johrei with Reiki!

Not only did she become a Johrei practitioner, giving Jorei healing at meetings; but according to Tadao, she actually went on to become a Teacher in the particular organisation.

It would be interesting to know specifically which Johrei healing organisation she belonged to.

And what degree of influence the particular version of the Johrei teachings (and her own Johrei teacher status) had on her Reiki...

Reiki, if it was "authentic" Reiki that is, blended with Johrei??? With so many variations in the Reiki history and Reiki styles, isn't there a single style that offers the one true Reiki healing energy???
